Project overview
In March 2024, Gas Networks Ireland announced a development to connect Bord na Móna's Edenderry Power Station to the national gas network.
Edenderry Power Station has two different sets of electricity generation assets on site: a baseload biomass plant and a peak load diesel plant.
This new gas connection project will convert Edenderry's diesel plant to natural gas, resulting in an immediate 40% reduction in CO2 emissions. The CO2 emissions reductions will continue into the future as Ireland's gas network transitions to renewable gas.
Planning application
Gas Networks Ireland has submitted an application for planning permission to An Coimisiún Pleanála for development consisting of a proposed underground gas pipeline connection (approximately 23.65km in length) between the existing Edenderry power station and the Dublin to Galway high pressure gas pipeline.
The documentation and drawings that make up the application for planning permission, including the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and Natura Impact Statement (NIS), can be accessed at this dedicated planning website: https://www.edenderrygaspipeline.ie/.
